Khalid Anwer & Co., also known by its original name A. K. Brohi & Co., is one of Pakistan’s oldest and most respected law firms. Founded in Karachi in 1944, it has been at the forefront of the country’s constitutional and commercial litigation for more than eight decades. Based in Karachi, with associate firms in Lahore and Islamabad, it acts for leading banks, industrial groups, regulators and multinationals. Former members of the firm have gone on to sit as judges of the Supreme Court.

The firm was founded by the late Mr. A. K. Brohi and Mr. Ram Jethmalani, two of the most distinguished advocates of their generation, who went on to high public office in Pakistan and India respectively. Mr. Brohi served as Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India, Attorney-General and Federal Minister for Law and Justice; Mr. Jethmalani became India’s Union Minister for Law and Justice and Chairman of the Bar Council of India.

Mr. Khalid Anwer joined the firm in 1962 and carried it forward after Mr. Brohi’s retirement. Over five decades before the superior courts, he served as a Senator and Federal Minister for Law and Justice, restored a dismissed Prime Minister in Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif v. President of Pakistan and defended the 8th and 21st Constitutional Amendments. In 1997 the firm adopted the additional name Khalid Anwer & Co., and it continues to practise under both names.

Under Senior Partner Raashid Anwer, dispute resolution remains the backbone of the practice, before the High Courts, the Federal Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court and specialist tribunals. In recent years the firm has also built a dedicated corporate team advising on M&A, joint ventures, restructurings and regulatory compliance.

Clients range from Fortune 500 companies to family businesses, including the State Bank of Pakistan, the Central Depository Company and many of the country’s leading banks and insurers. They describe the firm’s advice as practical and results-oriented, and its team as responsive and accessible.
